Although we live in a
"disposable world," this mindset does not have to include our
bikes. Yes, the technology used in the bicycle industry has evolved at a
blinding pace, but does that make yesterday’s technology obsolete? I think
not!
Frame materials have changed
dramatically over the years; however, the basic design has been with us
since the invention of the bike. Some say, "steel is passe." Yet,
in today’s high-tech bicycle market, independent frame builders continue
to thrive producing steel frames. Why? When you are just starting to feel
like you can ride; pounding through a late February 60-miler—nothing beats
the feel of steel!
Your old aluminum frame doesn’t
have fancy carbon seat stays and she rides a little stiff, but if you think
back—and remember—you won a few "crits" on her anyway. Are you
getting my point? Are you feeling the love? Revive your passion; paint the
damn frame!....
