| Commonly asked questions:
Will blasting hurt
my aluminum frame? I
only use plastic media for paint removal it is the gentlest blasting
method available and will not harm the thin wall aluminum tubing used on
today’s bicycles. I use glass beads on the corroded areas, which are
also extremely gentle, and I selectively hit the damaged areas just
enough to remove the corrosion.
Will paint stick
to titanium?
Absolutely, it’s the only way I’d ride one. With the brush finish on
most ti bikes a little time in the glass bead machine and a good etching
primer it will last as well as anything else. I also use an adhesion
promoter as a little helper.
Are you going to
blast my carbon fiber frame?
No. Although the plastic media would not harm the carbon fiber,
there really isn’t a reason to go down that far since corrosion
isn’t a factor. We’ll simply hand sand the old paint until the
desired base is obtained, apply several coats of sealer to hide
the old color and paint away
What kind of paint
do you use? On most
frames I use Dupont finishes such as Imron or Croma-Base
but I can spray anything you desire. It is more economical to use Dupont
products because I am already set up for it. On Candy finishes as well
as most custom finishes I use House of Kolors products. They
offer an unbelievable choice of Custom colors and effects and I am
factory trained to apply them. It’s more expensive but once you see it
you’ll understand why.
Will it be as good
as my factory paint job?
I like to think much better. Ten years experience repairing and
maintaining helicopters in the Gulf’s salt environment gives me a
greater knowledge of the effects of salt and corrosion on different
metals and how to treat and eliminate it so it won’t come back. The
factory isn’t offering that. Also, the products I use are the best on
the market and I have been factory trained to use them for maximum
effectiveness resulting in an incredible finish.
How will you
repair my dents? For a
small additional charge, I will apply high quality waterproof fiber
filler (very fancy Bondo) to the damaged area and hand sand it until it
is no longer visible. After the sealer and paint you will never know it
was there.
